ぼちぼち

. Last night, we went out for okonomiyaki in Atsugi City. We were cruising for izakayas when I spotted the place with its old posters, faux crumbling plaster walls and darkly stained wood. Inside, it's all very ぼｔちぼち as the name of the place, Botchi Botchi, implies, with single paned glass, well worn tatami mats, and a mock up of a 1950s street scene. The food was pretty good, if not as flavourful as okonomiyaki as I remember it in Ehime Prefecture where I used to live.

Leaving Atsugi to come to Kamakura is no fun. I've been following Obi Shawn's blog about living the Japanese salaryman life, and while I may not be living the typical drudgery, my commute from Kashiwa to Kamakura is ludicrously long. It takes me two hours from my apartment to the school's front hall. Although it's long, coming from Atsugi to Kamakura is more of an ordeal. It requires three changes of trains, and a waiting time of up to 10 minutes at some of those stations. Fortunately for me this morning, I got to sit down on two of those trips and knitted some more on the scarf I'm making for K.

On the walk to school, I spotted this cherry struggling through the fence boards. Nature always asserts itself, though not in the ways you might expect it to.

Mmmmm, that okonomiyaki looks really good, I haven't had it in a few months. I think on Saturday, we should go to the Okonomiyaki place Don Buri after class!!! It's not so far out of the way...

I think Phoenix hasn't had the good stuff yet. Botchi Botchi isn't representative of the okonomi experience.

We also had hanpen with cheese, and that went down very well with P.

If you don't, you better leave now because I'm not about to entertain another one.
